Daryl Corletto

Ok, we liked Daz anyway but we like him even better after this weekend. It seems that after every NBL season Corletto, who is one of the all time leading scorers in BigV competition along with B. Cunningham and J. Anderson, just comes back to the BigV better and better.

This weekend the Tigers opened their 2007 championship account and Corletto, unknowingly, set about breaking records. First up, Corletto equaled the league records for FT attempts on Saturday night - getting 18 opportunities at the line. Second, he smashes the FTM record set way back in 2000 by Shaun King (15 FTM's) by making all 18 of them. No wonder he ended up with a round high 46 points.

He then topped it all off by logging a triple double on Saturday, sure it was a modest one even by his standards but a TD it was.

Team of the Week - Coburg Men

Coburg have copped a bit of a pounding over the last couple of years - a couple of wooden spoons, a run in last year with the league over eligibility of players and then the loss in 2007 of their youth league team.

Nice comeback in round one though - Coburg smashing both Melbourne Uni and Maccabi in D2M competition to claim ladder leadership over Shepparton who....they just happen to be hosting next weekend. The Giants looked to have recovered one or two former players and set up nicely with some former D1 and YL players.

Honourable mention this week goes to Werribee D1W - doing the unthunkable...and beating the Mermaids away.

Oh, and before the complaints start pouring in about your team not being team of the week, for whatever self serving reasons you might have, we promise at some point to have an equal team of the week where we once again list everyone in the league.....

WNBL Stars

We are not going to mention every former WNBL player or Opal playing in the BigV cause we are sure to upset someone by leaving them off the list but......we can't go past welcoming Michelle Brogan back to the league and providing just a little bit of an update on Jo Metcalf. Brogan had her way with Dandenong yesterday with 20 points and 12 rebounds and Metcalf set the Venom on the right track with two wins - Jo top scoring in the second of those encounters.

Home Court Advantage (the HCA Ratio)

We have an ambitious plan this year, even though we reckon it might fall apart by round three, of tracking a new statistic that we call the HCA Ratio. Basically we will be trying to determine which of the leagues in the BigV Structure relies most on Home Court. Early leader is YL1M - the only competition in BigV in which all games were won by the home team this round.

D1M was not far away, Keilor letting everyone down by losing to SP.
