The 2007-’08 fixture sees the Dragons tip-off against the West Sydney Razorbacks at Vodafone Arena on September 22, the first of 15 home games for the season.

Thirteen teams will contest the 2007-’08 regular season, with each team to play a total of 30 games. The South Dragons will meet each team twice before contesting six additional home and away games against six different, randomly-selected sides.

South Dragons general manager Ryan Gardiner said the club sought a fan-friendly schedule.

“With the new fixture we‘re looking at more Saturday and Sunday games,” he said.

“We always endeavour to avoid playing Friday nights as we know how significant this night is for local associations and their competitions. Being a family-friendly sport and with our very strong ties to local associations, we want to give basketball fans in Victoria every opportunity to get to our games.

“In working with the NBL, we have hopefully come up with a supporter-friendly fixture.”

The South Dragons will play three twilight clashes to round out the weekend on October 14 (4pm), October 28 (4pm) and November 4 (6pm).

“This season will see the South Dragons play more Sunday games at a new family-friendly timeslot,” Gardiner said.

“A 4pm tip-off means both our corporate supporters and our members can be home early on a Sunday night.”

The Dragons’ rivalry with cross-town foes the Melbourne Tigers will resume on Saturday October 13, when the team heads to the Cage to contest the first of three local derbies.

But the real action takes place on Saturday December 15, when South plays host to the Tigers at Vodafone Arena.

Fourteen of the Dragons’ 15 home games will be played at Vodafone Arena, with the remaining home clash to be played at Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre on Wednesday January 16, 2008.

“Our continued and strong relationship with Vodafone Arena allows us to achieve what is not often possible at other venues,” Gardiner said.

“With a 10,000-seat capacity, Vodafone Arena allows us the opportunity to stage open-air games and to put on one of the best game nights in the league.

“MSAC is home to the Dragons, our office is here, the team trains here and does all of its recovery here.

“To have a game at MSAC will mean we have 15 games in the Melbourne CBD. We had great success with our regional games last year and will look to play some pre-season games at these venues, but to have another opportunity to play in Melbourne is tremendous for our corporate partners and membership base.”

Led by player-coach Shane Heal, the Dragons will return bigger and better than ever in September and hungry for success. Heal, Jacob Holmes, Joe Ingles and Brent Hobba will join new recruits Cortez Groves, Brad Hill and Luke Martin to take on the best in the business.
