Tomorrow night they face off.

Brent Hobba and Joe Ingles are set to go head to head this weekend in Round 7 of BigV competition.

At 7-1 for the season, Hobba’s Dandenong Rangers sit atop the BigV ladder and will enter the game as slight favourites.

But with five wins and a loss on their own record, the Sabres have moved into third on the ladder and will present a major challenge.

“We’ve got a bit of a rivalry with Sandringham so these are always big games for us,” Hobba said.

“I think both teams will match up pretty well and it will be pretty tight but hopefully we can get over the line.”

The Rangers were handed their first loss for the season last weekend in a surprise result against Werribee, a loss the team will use as added motivation against the Sabres tomorrow night.

“The loss last weekend didn’t go down too well with the team,” Hobba said.

“We played very poorly and we were very disappointed with ourselves and want to turn it around this weekend.”

But while he remains happy with the Rangers’ results this year, Hobba knows his personal best is yet to come.

“I’m happy with the way the team’s going but I’m not really happy personally; I haven’t met my expectations and I’ve been a bit flat,” he said.

“There’s a lot more improving to do.”

In a bid to fast-track his development, Hobba is working hard on court and in the gym with his Dandenong teammates and South Dragons’ coaching staff.

“I’m currently doing individual sessions on court with (South Dragons assistant coach) Guy Molloy and weights with (strength and conditioning coach) Val out at Windy Hill, as well as training with the Rangers and playing at the weekend,” he said.

It’s hard work, but a win for the Rangers tomorrow night will make it all worthwhile.
