Matt Shanahan’s run of bad luck continued on Friday night when his Ballarat Miners went down 95-88 to the Mount Gambier Pioneers in the SEABL.

The Miners (2-8) returned to the court on Saturday to take on the rampaging Frankston Blues in a fast and physical clash. Ballarat raced out of the blocks to secure the halftime lead but couldn’t hold off the fast-finishing Blues, going down 118-108 at the final buzzer.

There was better news for Brent Hobba’s Dandenong Rangers on Saturday night, with a 107-95 win over the Waverley Falcons. The win sees the Rangers out to a 9-1 record for the season, just one game behind rival Warrnambool on the BigV ladder.

Also on the winner’s list were Simon Conn and the Sandringham Sabres, who posted a 113-100 victory over Hume City on Saturday night, and young gun Shannon Seebohm and the AIS, who defeated the Hobart Chargers 106-95 in the SEABL.

Across the Tasman Luke Martin was again impressive in Round 10 of the New Zealand NBL, posting 22 points, three boards and two assists in the Waikato Pistons’ 86-75 win over the Harbour Heat.

Fellow South Dragons recruit Nick Horvath (12 points, six rebounds, three assists) was not so fortunate, his Wellington Saints losing 109-105 in overtime to the Bay Hawks.

At the end of Round 10 the Saints are fifth on the New Zealand NBL ladder (7-5), one spot ahead of the Pistons in sixth (6-4).
