The Bulls trailed 3-0 and were facing elimination entering Sunday's match, but stayed alive in the best-of-seven series thanks to superb performances from Luol Deng (25 points on 10-of-15 shooting), Kirk Hinrich (19 points, 7-of-15) and Ben Gordon, who had 19 points, including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc and a perfect nine-of-nine from the free-throw line.

Former Piston Ben Wallace was also a tower of strength, pulling down a game-high 17 rebounds and helping out of offence with 11 points.

As they had done in previous games this series, the Bulls again pulled away to an early lead and Detroit reeled them back in, but this time Chicago refused to capitulate and held on for a series-saving win.

Best for the Pistons were guard Chauncey Billups (23 points, eight assists) and Tayshaun Prince (18 points, seven rebounds and four assists).

The Jazz, meanwhile, produced a superb last quarter as it swept past the Golden State Warriors in a 115-101 victory that gives Utah a 3-1 series lead.

Utah scored 40 points to 23 in a blistering final quarter, with Carlos Boozer scoring 34 for the match to go with his 12 rebounds.

Derek Fisher was the fourth quarter hero for the Jazz, scoring 14 of his 21 points in the final term to give Utah the chance of wrapping up the series with a win in game five of the playoff series.
