For the second week in a row a Hume City player has been awarded the CM Player of the Week, with Greg Smith taking out the Round 8 award.

Smith has been playing some pretty good basketball this season, but his game against Werribee on Sunday was one to remember with 47 points and 11 rebounds to almost win the game of his own hand (Broncos won by six points).

Within his amazing 47-point haul, Smith had 17/30 from the field, 8/16 three-pointers, five assists and eight defensive rebounds at the other end of the court

It was hot competition for the CM Player of the Week title, with the following performances all closely considered:

- Latrobe City Debutant Jameel Pugh launching his Big V career with 40 points and 19 rebounds.
- Bobby Cunningham's triple-double for Warrnambool with 18 points, 15 rebounds and 14 assists.
- The Ranger's Brent Hobba scoring 35 points and 12 rebounds against Waverley.
- The shoot-out in the Eltham vs Warrnambool game with Luke Egan, Tim Gainey and Lester Strong all scoring 31 points each and Adam Moore joining in with 30 points.

BigV WOMEN Player of the Week, Round 8: Julie Degroot

Julie Degroot dominated Waverley's double-header weekend, with two MVP performances earning her the CW Player of the Week award.

Degroot had the "hot hand" against Coburg in her second game for the weekend, scoring 31 points at an incredible 13/16 from the field (81.25%), which is an amazing achievement against any opposition. Julie also chimed in with five rebounds and seven assists for the game.

Starting the weekend against Bulleen, Degroot scored 16 points (6/12 FG) but perhaps more importantly, provided eight assists.

So far this season, Degroot is averaging 15.5 points per game on top of dishing 3.5 assists per game to be leading the way for the Falcons.

Other players who starred during the weekend's Round 8 games included:

- Sharin Milner again leading the way for the Broncos with 26 points against Sandringham
- The Tigers Louella Tomlinson scoring 25 points in their win over Geelong.
- Dandenong's Melissa Colcott continuing her fine form with 24 points and 7 rebounds.
