San Antonio's big three all scored more than 20 points to guide the Spurs to a 108-100 win over the Utah Jazz in game one of the NBA's Western Conference finals on Sunday (US time).

Led by dominant big man Tim Duncan (27 points), and guards Manu Ginobili (23 points) and Tony Parker, who had 21, the Spurs had their opponents' measure for most of the night, save for a late Jazz run.

San Antonio surged to an 18-point half-time lead and showed few effects of a bruising semi-final series against Phoenix, which had concluded only two days ago.

The lead was still 18 early in the final term, but Utah's Deron Williams exploded with 18 last-quarter points to give his team a chance.

The margin was eight with less than three minutes to play and seven inside the final minute, but San Antonio held on despite missing nine free-throws in the last term.

Williams was best for the Jazz, finishing with 34 points on 13-of-23 shooting, while team-mate Carloz Boozer netted 20.

San Antonio shot at better than 54 per cent from the field, made 5-of-11 from beyond the arc and had 26 assists to Utah's 16.

The Spurs are again at home on Tuesday for game two of the best-of-seven series.

Meanwhile, the Eastern Conference finals between the Detriot Pistons and Cleveland Cavaliers begins on Monday.

The pair met in last year's conference semi-finals, where the Pistons prevailed in seven games.
