Hobart Chargers favourite son Anthony Stewart earns his third Player of the Week accolade this season and increases his favouritism for the SEABL South Men Most Valuable Player trophy.

Stewart recorded his fifth 40+ game for the season and is sure to have a 50-point game before the end of the season.

Stewart started this weekend’s game against the struggling Ballarat Miners at a sensational pace, scoring 18 first quarter points, including the first seven points for his team. He did not let up there with another 11 points in the second quarter to help his team to a 60-54 advantage at the half with 29 points.

Stewart had a poor third quarter, but showed his wealth of experience in the final term to record another 17 points. He finished the game with 48 points @ 56%, one rebound, six assists and one block, helping the Chargers to an 128-121 victory and giving coach Mark Chivers a memorable win in his 300th SEABL game.

SEABL MEN: PLAYER OF THE WEEK (EAST) - DAVID BIWER (Nunawading Spectres)

SEABL legend David Biwer put on another memorable performance this weekend to help the Nunawading Spectres to a sensational 93-84 victory over the South Men ladder-leaders Bendigo.

Biwer opened the game with 12 first-quarter points as well as five rebounds and three assists. Bendigo was able to contain him in the scoring department, but Biwer destroyed the Braves in all other factors on the court.

Biwer receives his second Player of the Week award after recording his eleventh double-double this season with 17 points @ 33%, 21 rebounds, nine assists and one steal.

Other notable performances were;
- With 30pts @ 56%, 12 rebounds, one assist and one steal from import Shawn Myers, Geelong Supercats recorded their 14th consecutive victory this season.
- Australian Boomers squad member Patrick Mills helped the AIS move into fourth position on the
ladder with a 2-0 record. Mills averaged 24.5pts, four rebounds, 7.5 assists and 2.5 steals for the weekend.
- Jon Croft averaged 20.5pts, nine rebounds and 1.5 assists for the weekend, and helped Kilsyth consolidate third position on the South ladder with a 1-1 weekend record.
- Southern Districts guard Adam Gibson recorded 41pts @ 53%, nine rebounds and two assists against his former team, the AIS, on Saturday night, but his team failed 116-118.

SEABL WOMEN: PLAYER OF THE WEEK - CASSIE JORDAN (Launceston Tornadoes)

Despite only one point in the final quarter, Cassie Jordan played an integral role in the Launceston Tornadoes' 78-68 victory over the visiting Lady Blues. A 150 SEABL game veteran, Cassie Jordan recorded her second career triple-double this week with 14 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists. Jordan also had three blocks and one steal which helped the Tornadoes secure victory over Frankston and keep their finals aspirations alive.

Jordan returned to SEABL competition this year after taking a rest in the 2006 season. Her inclusion has given the Tornadoes an added offensive presence which has been beneficial to
Launceston this year.

Other notable performances were;
- Nunawading youngster Dayna Schinz had a sensational game with 22 points @ 86%, 11 rebounds, one block and one steal, helping the Spectres record a surprising 87-81 victory over the higher-placed Lady Braves.
-Jasmine Finnigan helped the NW Tasmania Lady Thunder secure their third successive victory with 23 points @ 69%, 17 rebounds, two assists and four blocks.
- Knox Raiders Twin Towers Emma Randall and Hollie Grima combined for 62 points and 22 rebounds to secure their team a victory in Albury/Wodonga.
