Brent Hobba and the Dandenong Rangers kicked off the weekend’s action with a 43-point thrashing of Diamond Valley on Saturday night.

The Rangers backed up the win with a 97-84 victory over the Melbourne Tigers on Sunday to reclaim top spot in the BigV Championship race.

At 12-1 for the season, the Rangers are the danger team in the lead-up to the playoffs in July.

Also in BigV action this weekend were Simon Conn, Joe Ingles and the Sandringham Sabres, who posted their tenth win for the season with victory over Eltham on Saturday night.

The 22-point win sees the third-placed Sabres secure a four-game break over Melbourne on the BigV ladder.

In SEABL news, Matt Shanahan’s luckless Ballarat Miners scored an upset win over the third-placed Canberra Gunners at the Minerdome on Saturday night. The Miners took a one-point lead into the last break but came out firing in the final term to outscore the Gunners 35-24 and claim the win.

With a team-high 20 points to his name, Shanahan was named MVP in the Miners' 119-105 win.

Led by South Dragons young gun Shannon Seebohm (20 points), the AIS secured a narrow two-point victory over the Bendigo Braves on Friday night in a heart-stopping showdown.

But the team’s luck ran out on Saturday night when the visitors went down to the Frankston Blues by 14 points.

In the New Zealand NBL, Luke Martin posted 10 points, one board, three assists in the Waikato Pistons’ 10-point win over the Manawatu Jets on Thursday.

The Pistons were again in action on Friday, when Martin tallied 17 points, three boards and three assists en route to his side’s two-point loss to the Bay Hawks.

Also in action on Friday night was Nick Horvath, who with 24 points, seven boards and two assists, was the Wellington Saints’ leading scorer in their 85-83 loss to the Nelson Giants.

The weekend’s results see the Pistons move up to fifth place on the New Zealand NBL ladder ahead of Horvath’s Saints in sixth.
