Manu Ginobili scored 27 points for the champs, 13 of which came in a tense final quarter, while Tony Parker enhanced his reputation with 24 points to be awarded the Game 4 MVP in a career-defining year.

Tim Duncan, on the other hand, was kept relatively quiet by his standards, with the 'Big Fundamental's' main contribution being 15 rebounds, but Duncan's superb first three matches helped set the scene for San Antonio's fourth championship since 1999.

To make the victory even sweeter, the Spurs now join an elite club that also comprises of the Celtics, Bulls and Lakers who have won the title four times.

Despite being massively hyped going into the finals, Cleveland's LeBron James will have to wait for another opportunity to snare his first NBA title. After a poor opening to the series, James recovered well and in this game landed 24 points, 10 assists and six rebounds to lead his side.

However, despite those statistics, James only managed to land 10 out of 30 shots from the field, although he could be somewhat excused after spending the previous night in hospital attending the birth of his second child.

James, though, received little support during Game 4 as the next best Cav was Drew Gooden with 11, while Daniel Gibson chipped in with 10 to extend Cleveland's championship drought to 43 years.

Cleveland did give itself a chance of a series-saving victory as it put together an 11-0 run early in the fourth to take the lead for the first time in all four matches.

Spurs managed to level at 66 apiece but when James missed a three-point shot, the San Antonio side lifted its intensity and put together an 8-0 run of its own that was inspired by the effective rebounding of Duncan and Fabricio Oberto, with the run ultimately handing the Spurs a well-deserved title.
