Rangers launch talent search
25/05/2007
The Dandenong Jayco Rangers this week announced a unique opportunity for young female basketball players to try out for a squad position at the club.
When asked about the purpose of the trial squad, head coach Dale Waters said "these trials will provide a chance for female basketball players across the country, and in particular Victoria, who believe in themselves and their abilities to display their skills and claim a stake in a progressive WNBL program."
"The Dandenong Jayco Rangers have a long history of producing some of Australia's, and in fact the world's best players such as Penny Taylor.
"Given that there are three Victorian based teams in the defencejobs WNBL Championship in season 2007/08, the Rangers need to stay ahead of the pack and continue to come up with proactive initiatives to keep our nose in front.
Also, we are concerned about the number of players looking to the American college system for their playing career and this squad program could provide the pathway into the WNBL," Waters said.
The trials will be open to all SEABL, Big V, State juniors, ITC (Metro and Country), Junior Championship Division female players, US college Australian players and interested interstate players.
The trails will be conducted over two days:
Monday 4th June 5.30pm - 7.30pm at Dandenong Basketball Stadium
Tuesday 5th June 7.30pm - 9.30p, at Lyndale Secondary College, Gladstone Road, North Dandenong.
Players selected to squad positions will have the opportunity to participate in team sessions, individuals, small group sessions, strength and conditioning. The club anticipates three to five squad positions will be available, and if opportunities present themselves throughout the defencejobs WNBL Championship season, squad members could be selected to play.
All players interested in attending must complete an application form, available at - www.dandenongrangers.com.
